Big swell inside the port, life-saving food, basketball world championship and the Guggenheim museum.
Some ports are just fade from your memory, some of them stay there for a long time.
The last time I visited port of Bilbao was almost 11 years ago on board a feeder vessel as a second officer.
Since we had one-week rotation, each Monday I had possibility to escape from the vessel for the few hours and top-up my fridge with fruits, salmon, jamon, and everything you need to enjoy your next seven days and not to die from the awful cooks "meal".
And during the "low" season in the summer we even had one week lay-up in Bilbao. Perfect. Visited games of Ukrainian team on basketball world championships, walking the city and amazed by the Guggenheim museum.
I think all seamen will agree, that such port stay are very rare in our life.
But I never thought that after many years I will live in Spain and coming to this port as a surveyor. But here we are.
